Tonight's book will be The Baker's Secret by Stephen P. Kiernan. After her kind mentor is arrested because of his Jewish heritage, a young baker's apprentice in Normandy engages in discreet resistance activities, baking contraband loaves of bread for the hungry using surplus ingredients taken from occupying forces.

NEW: Chess Club
Morristown & Morris Twp. Library is starting a Chess Club in 2018! Join us for chess on the third Thursday of the month starting in January 2018 and running through June. The group will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We will enjoy friendly, non-competitive, short games of chess between players of all skill levels. Improve your game, make new friends and enjoy playing chess! Players of all ages are welcome to play as long as they know the rules. Please bring your own chess board, pieces, and time clock. Games will be between 20-30 minutes as agreed upon between players.

North Jersey Sewing Circle: Basic Tailoring Techniques for a Classic Jacket
Sewing Circle member Helen C. will give an overview of various construction procedures that attain more professional results. Easy-to-follow steps for cutting, sewing, and handling the fabric will be illustrated in detail. Helen will explain important aspects of tailoring a notched-collar jacket: facings and interfacings, pressing, two-part sleeves, and such finishing details as buttonholes and rolled collars. Helpful tools and materials will be suggested for ease of use. Tailoring is about enhancing the appearance and stability of a well-fashioned jacket.  Read more...

Thomas Nast Exhibit

Thomas Nast Exhibit
Be sure to visit the Library's exciting new exhibit, "More Than Politics: The Pen and Pictures of Thomas Nast". The exhibit will be on display in the Kirby Gallery from November 1 to January 31.

The artist lived a short walk from the library, at the corner of Miller Road and Macculloch Avenue. Images of his family, home and and local influences are explored, and selected examples showing the breadth of his work including children's illustrations, historical images, political cartoons, and his iconic drawings of Santa Claus are displayed in the exhibit. Nast's artwork has left a legacy to future generations that includes many iconic symbols that have become part of the American lexicon.  Read more...

New Assistive Technology Computer
The Morristown and Morris Township Library is excited to provide a new Assistive Technology Computer to the public, which offers magnification and speech software including JAWS, Magic, Talking Typer and ZoomText. The computer is available for use in the Reference Department and comes to us through a partnership with the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) and the New Jersey State Library.  Read more...

The Rotary Club of Morristown and John Bickford Foundation Provide the Library with a Technological Boost
The Morristown & Morris Township Library was the recipient of two grant awards from the Morristown Rotary Club and the John Bickford Foundation for the purchase of laptops in the Library’s Technology Training Lab. Each $4,000 grant enabled the Library to update all of the laptops in the lab, which are used for public computer classes the Library offers throughout the year as well as for other purposes. The Rotary Club provides grants and sponsorships to organizations in order to better serve the community, while the John Bickford Foundation has a long history of supporting institutions in Morristown.  Read more...

Free Assistive Technology Classes Available at the Library

Free Assistive Technology Classes Available at the Library
If you are 55 or older with a vision change, free assistive technology classes are now available to you in the library. This program is provided by The New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) as part of the Library Equal Access Program (LEAP) for New Jersey residents 55 and older who have experienced a change in vision. The Commission supports FREE iPad and computer training classes through Advancing Opportunities. The next session of classes will take place this March through June, at eight public libraries around the state, including the Morristown & Morris Township Library.  Read more...
